We’re seeking an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to join our team who supports our internal systems and infrastructure. Datamine is a leading analytics consultancy who works with businesses across New Zealand and Australia. The objective of this role is to support and improve our existing technical environment, but also engage in future planning and organisation to support the efficient running of infrastructure for Datamine.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimise Datamine's systems and network infrastructure
  • Identify and resolve hardware and network performance issues
  • Engage and contribute to Datamine’s long-term technology strategy
  • Investigation of technical issues, the ability to diagnose root causes of issues and plan for long-term resolutions
  • Ensure our data security measures are robust
  • Maintain Datamine’s infrastructure, network, and AWS environment
  • Actively manage, improve, and monitor resources in local and cloud (especially AWS), including backups, patches, and scaling
  • Build and maintain hardware and operating systems mainly focused on Linux  environments
  • Support and improve Datamine's virtual environments (Virtualisation with VMware)
  • Create and maintain infrastructure documentation
  • Conduct systems monitoring to prescribed SLA’s
  • Facilitate backups of Datamine’s systems

 

You would fit right in at Datamine if you have:

  • 5 years of experience working in a commercial environment as a Systems Administrator/Engineer or Infrastructure Support role
  • Good understanding of network and security technology and principles
  • Hands-on experience with configuring and maintaining resources in AWS
  • Experience automating cloud-infrastructure, storage back-ups and systems monitoring
  • Strong experience working with AWS, Linux, VMware. Ideally some experience with networks/firewalls, and some Microsoft environments (Windows/O365)
  • Experience improving and implementing processes which make for smooth operation of the technical environment
  • Experience designing, implementing and maintaining systems
  • The ability to be organised and focus on the task at hand
  • Strong logical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to take a methodical approach to solving problems
  • A curiosity for systems and technologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and bedside manner
  • A genuine passion for all things IT
